The wagon vice is another traditional vice design that I feel is very relevant to woodworking today. It is a simple tail vice to use and features a wooden dog block that travels within a cut out in the bench top. This tail vice is discreet and unlike other options it doesn’t protrude out from the side of the bench when opened.
The wagon vice is ideal for using with bench dogs to hold wood down on to the bench top whilst its face is worked and pieces can also be clamped vertically within the jaws. Two rows of bench dogs enable the full width and length of the bench top to be used.
